Melissa's Gai Lan Leaves
Product Information
Gai Lan closely resembles another Asian cabbage known as Choy Sum. With very small white flowers rather than yellow near its stems, the entire vegetable, including the flowers can be boiled, steamed and stir-fried. Similar to a flowering broccoli, Gai Lan has very dark green leaves and slender grayish to mid-green stalks. Sometimes a substitute for kale, Gai Lan has a pleasantly bitter flavor reminiscent of Choy Sum.
Used in soups and vegetable dishes, Gai Lan is best in winter and is an excellent source of vitamin C.
