Each bag has a capacity of 40 to 45 gallons with a 165-gram dart impact and 480-gram Elmendorf tear test. A biohazard symbol is clearly emblazoned on the side of each bag, while the bold red color alerts people that the bag contains infectious waste. The star-sealed bottom helps eliminate ripping or tearing, even when the bag is heavily weighed down with garbage. Each bag measures 40 x 46 inches and has a thickness of 1.6 mil. They have a twist-tie closure.
