Advantage II for Dogs is available over the counter. Advantage II for Dogs is used in the treatment of adult fleas, flea eggs and larvae. The main ingredient is imidacloprid, a topical solution that collects in the oils of the skin and in the hair follicles. Imidacloprid is not absorbed into the body and does not circulate through the bloodstream. It is spread around the body through translocation. Advantage II for Dogs also contains an insect growth regulator known as pyriproxyfen. Pyriproxyfen prevents eggs from hatching. These ingredients combine to help control flea infestations by acting on the central nervous system of insects. Advantage II kills 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours. The effects last for up to 30 days.
